About the Work

Who leads whom? Who leans on whom? Who learns from whom?

A search for common ground between tradition and modernity. Set to the sounds of Filipino folk dances and lullabies, marie/maria explores the separation and intersection of tradition and modernity in my second-generation Filipina experiences. As I'm creating each gesture and phrase, I seek to find my ground in between then and now and uncover a deeper yearning for home.
